Archiving Policy
1. Introduction
Educative: Jurnal Ilmiah Pendidikan is committed to the long-term preservation and permanent accessibility of the scholarly research it publishes. We recognize the importance of maintaining a complete and enduring record of academic contributions for future researchers, historians, and the public. This policy outlines the measures taken by Educative and its publisher, LPPI Yayasan Almahmudi bin Dahlan, to ensure the continued availability of published content.
2. Description
Digital archiving in scholarly publishing refers to the processes and activities that ensure information of continuing value is identified, preserved, and made available to users over time, regardless of technological changes or the lifespan of the original publishing platform.
The primary aims of Educative’s archiving strategy are to:
- Ensure permanent and uninterrupted access to all published scholarly articles.
- Safeguard the journal’s intellectual output against loss due to technical failures, natural disasters, or cessation of journal operations.
- Maintain the usability, authenticity, and integrity of archived content.
3. Policy Details
3.1 Publisher-Managed Archiving and Website Access
- All articles published in Educative are permanently available and accessible free of charge on the official journal website: https://publikasi.abidan.org/index.php/educative
- The website and its content are regularly backed up as part of LPPI Yayasan Almahmudi bin Dahlan’s IT infrastructure and data management policies.
3.2 Third-Party Digital Preservation Services
Educative ensures long-term preservation through robust, internationally recognized services:
- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN): Via the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, Educative utilizes the PKP PN plugin for free, decentralized, and distributed preservation, ensuring redundant copies are stored across member libraries in the network. See: pkp.sfu.ca/pkp-pn.
These measures ensure that Educative’s content remains accessible and preserved under various contingency scenarios.
3.3 Author Self-Archiving
Educative is an open-access journal publishing under the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license. Authors are permitted and encouraged to archive and share their work to maximize visibility and impact.
- Submitted Version (Preprint): May be deposited at any time on personal websites, institutional repositories, or recognized non-commercial preprint servers (e.g., INA-Rxiv, OSF Preprints).
- Accepted Manuscript (AAM / Postprint): May be deposited immediately upon acceptance in institutional or subject repositories, or on personal websites, under CC BY-NC-SA terms.
- Published Version (Version of Record, VoR): The final published PDF may be deposited immediately on personal websites, institutional repositories, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, or other non-commercial platforms, under CC BY-SA terms.
When self-archiving any version, authors must provide a full citation to the original publication in Educative, include a link to the article on the journal website using its Digital Object Identifier (DOI), and clearly indicate the CC BY-NC-SA license. 3.4 Persistent Identifiers (DOIs)
All articles are assigned a unique and persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI). DOIs ensure reliable and continued access to the article’s landing page even if the website’s URL structure changes. LPPI Yayasan Almahmudi bin Dahlan supports DOI registration and management for Educative.
3.5 Metadata Harvesting
Educative supports and permits harvesting of article metadata by indexing services, abstracting databases, libraries, and scholarly search tools (e.g., via OAI-PMH) to enhance discoverability and accessibility.
3.6 Succession Plan / Cessation of Publication
In the unlikely event that Educative: Jurnal Ilmiah Pendidikan ceases publication, LPPI Yayasan Almahmudi bin Dahlan will take all necessary steps to ensure continued preservation and accessibility of all previously published content, including availability via Portico, the PKP Preservation Network, and/or an institutional repository managed by the publisher. Authors and readers will be informed of any such transition.
4. Technicalities to Achieve and Materialize the Policies
- Publication Formats: Articles are primarily published in PDF, with HTML versions available for online browsing. Source files (e.g., OJS XML) are archived internally by the journal management system.
- Backup Procedures: Regular, automated backups of the journal website and its content are conducted and managed by the IT services of LPPI Yayasan Almahmudi bin Dahlan.
- Collaboration with Archiving Services: Educative maintains its commitment to comprehensive, long-term preservation via Portico and PKP PN.
- Website Maintenance: The journal website is actively maintained to ensure optimal performance, security, and continuous availability of its content, except during planned maintenance (minimized and announced when possible).
5. Policy Review
This Archiving Policy is reviewed periodically and updated as necessary to reflect changes in technology, best practices, and available preservation services. Educative is dedicated to ensuring that its contributions to the field of education remain a lasting part of the scholarly record.
